Budapest will host its 86th Festive Book Week between June 4 and 7, 2015. NSZL, publishing 25 to 30 publications per year, will also be present at the event. On display will be our books on cultural history and the history of books, bibliographies, precious facsimiles and decorative albums published by the Library on its own or in cooperation with prestigious publishing houses. We are looking forward to seeing you at Festive Book Week!

NSZL and Gondolat Publishing House jointly publish an exploratory work by Dr. Kornélia Vas-Tóth, researcher of National Széchényi Library. Corpus of the research, serving as a basis of this book, was a bulk of 4,585 small graphics stored by the Department of Rare Books at Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, Moscow.

NSZL presents its program list, focusing on humor, for the Night of Museums 2015. Our guest artists will be humoralist György Sándor, conductor and pianist Tamás Vásáry, who will talk about the relationship between music and humor, and actor István Mikó who will guide us in the world of the cabaret. NSZL is proud to present the fourth part of the exhibition series on its thematic site presenting the map collection of Library founder Count Ferenc Széchényi. Images, showing the donation of the Count in scalable format, can be viewed in four categories: Pearls of the Collection, Nautical Charts, Hungarica Maps and Military Maps.

You are cordially invited to attend the concert to be given by NSZL’s choir on May 18, 2015, at 7 p.m., on the premises of the Institute for Musicology, Budapest. The program includes works by Heinrich Schütz, Daniel Friderici, Hans Leo Hassler, Orlandus Lassus, Thomas Morley, Georg Friedrich Händel, Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc, Johannes Brahms and Antonín Leopold Dvořák. Conductor will be Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck (Weimar, Germany).

ELDORADO has the following main objectives: providing digital content in a legitimate way and digitally ”resuscitating” publications which are either out of circulation or just lie idle on the shelves of libraries. With the establishment of an e-library, which is in line with the digital collections of other European libraries, we aim at creating a comprehensive information and knowledge base which is based on 21st-century technology.
As regards the “humor factor” of the prints, we seemed to have discovered a sort of trinity. The first category includes documents which were funny even at the time of their publication and can make people laugh ever since…

On May 8, 2015, Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library received Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director-General of Bibliotheca Alexandrina in his office. Mr. Serageldin arrived in Budapest to attend a two-day conference, “The Global Round Table”, organized by Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
