The collection of selected lectures of the 2012 Research Session at National Széchényi Library focuses on the historical event and the narrative of the past. What sort of experiences we obtain from the past? Where do the structures of our narratives come from, is it from the past, our experience of the past, or exclusively the present? Apart from theoretical approach, new interpretations are also added to the analysis of the relation between event and narrative by researchers of the 1956 Institute Oral History Archive (a workshop that from January 2012 is integrated part of National Széchényi Library).

In the second and more extensive unit of the book researchers from several departments of NSZL explore topics of history, literature, theatre and art history to elaborate on the event and the special characteristics of its narrative. They prove that although some types of art like photography and bookplates at first sight lack history whatsoever, even in these cases it can be seen that man gets hold of his experience by stories, and stories help him remain present in the world.

Bibliotheca Scientiae et Artis
National Széchényi Library holds its yearly internal conference, the Research Session to give chance to its researchers to present and discuss their topics, and facilitate a scholarly dialogue between the experts. The selected and edited material of these thematic conferences has been being published from 2010, as volumes of the book series Bibliotheca Scientiae et Artis. The series editor is László Boka, the Director of Research at National Széchényi Library, and each volume is edited by the curator of the related Session.
