The first major permanent exhibition, Essence, was dedicated to celebrate the 220th anniversary of the founding of our library in 2022. Paying tribute to the founder, Count Ferenc Széchényi, and recalling the Corvina Library as a historical predecessor, the permanent exhibition is recommended for all ages in Hungarian and English, presenting the complexity and multi-layered nature of the more than ten million documents in the library, and representing the full range of the written Hungarian cultural heritage.

Dear Readers and Visitors,
On 7 and 8 October 2022, a filming will take place in the Lions’ Court. The National Széchényi Library will therefore be closed during this period.
On 7 October, the express elevator cannot be used either, instead you can access the Buda Castle District from the Tabán by the first elevator to the Horsemen’s Courtyard (Csikós udvar) and the next elevator from there to the Castle District.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your kind patience.
Please note that on Tuesday 27 September 2022 different opening hours will apply due to a private event. The library will close at 5 pm. Stack requests can be submitted until 4 pm today.
Thank you for your understanding!
In 2022, the Bibframe international workshop will be held in partnership between the NSZL and the Italian Casalini Libri on 20-21 September in Budapest, in a hybrid format (in person and online) in English.
