The first Beautiful Hungarian Map competition dates back to 1996. The aim has been to raise the level of Hungarian map culture and help beautifully made maps gain more ground. To achieve this aim, the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics of Eötvös Lorand University (formerly Lazarus Mapping Foundation) and the Map Collection of NSZL invite entries to win the title of “Beautiful Hungarian Map” every year.
You are cordially invited to the announcement of winners of the Beautiful Hungarian Map 2016 competition and the opening ceremony of the exhibition based on competing items. Opening ceremony and the announcement of winners will start at 3 p.m., on March 17, 2017 in the Ceremonial Hall of National Széchényi Library, on Floor 6.
Under the title Week of Communities, the consortium of the Hungarian Open Air Museum, the Hungarian Institute for Culture and National Széchényi Library will launch a new national event series within the framework of priority project code No. EFOP-1.3.1-15-2016-00001 entitled “Acting Communities – Active Community Involvement”, the first event of which will be held between May 8 and 14, 2017.
Entitled Tradition and Innovation, an exhibition will be opened in National Széchényi Library, one which will present NSZL as a publisher. The exhibition will offer a selection from the wide range of books, albums and periodicals published by, or with the cooperation of NSZL.

The current operator of the buffet of National Széchényi Library will serve customers until March 10, 2017. The number of items stored in the Hungarian Digital Archive of Pictures database amounts to 75,000. This database includes mainly digital photos and the image illustrations of digitized books and journals. These images are collected, processed and serviced by National Széchényi Library.
