EODOPEN project meeting

On 21 and 22 September 2023, the NSZL hosted the 9th edition of the EODOPEN conference, the annual event of the international project funded by the European Union.

The main aim of the EODOPEN project is to bring digitally invisible, 'hidden' works out of the depths of the repositories and into the public domain. To achieve this goal, it cooperates directly with the different communities, both in the selection of the resources to be digitised and in the digitisation itself, and in the presentation of the project results, while contributing to the capacity of library working groups to adequately deal with rights clearance issues. The project also operates with alternative service delivery methods in order to bring digital content to the widest possible audience, with a particular focus on mobile devices and solutions for the blind and visually impaired.

Around sixty librarians from fifteen partner institutions representing eleven European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia) came to the national library to participate in two days of project briefings, workshops, presentations and discussions on the current state of the project, the future steps forward and the upcoming tasks of the project members.

On behalf of the NSZL, Rita Radó, Head of the Research and Special Collections Department, Research Organisation Division, welcomed the participants, followed by Judit Gerencsér, Deputy Director General, who opened the event.
The conference programme was presented by Iris Zöttl-Oberbichler, EODOPEN Project Manager. Among the main objectives of the organisation, she mentioned the digitisation and accessibility of literary works from the 20th and 21st centuries; facilitating access to literary works from the 20th and 21st centuries for blind, visually impaired and young users; and addressing the issues of rights clearance of digital documents.
At the end of the meeting, the participants also visited the National Library's Digitisation Centre, the library building and its exhibitions.
