A project on medieval and early modern prayer culture was launched in Brussels with the participation of the HNMPCC NSZL

On 19 September 2024, the first meeting of the Management Committee of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) project CA23143 was held in Brussels, establishing an important new forum for interdisciplinary prayer research based on international academic cooperation.

The Participation through Prayer in the Late Medieval and Early Modern World project aims to build an international network of researchers on late medieval and early modern prayer culture, and to provide an opportunity for experts from different disciplines to exchange research findings, organise conferences, and publish volumes of studies and other academic materials.

The four-year COST project, which started this year, currently comprises researchers from 21 countries, but the project management is also looking for further experts. The newly elected Management Committee, whose members include Dr. Rita Bajáki and Dr. Ágnes Korondi, will be responsible for the operational management and coordination of the project. The first is a researcher of the HUN-REN–PPKE Research Group on Baroque Literature and Spirituality, while the latter is a member of the HUN-REN–NSZL Fragmenta et Codices Research Group.

At the meeting, the COST staff assigned to the project presented the rules of the programme, and the Committee elected the main officers of the project. The participants also outlined the tasks of the working groups. The event provided an excellent opportunity for researchers from the participating countries to exchange experiences and build international partnerships. The international project that is now being launched will provide an opportunity for colleagues from the HNMPCC OSZK who have already joined or will join the network to present the results of their research on medieval and early modern prayer literature at our institution to the international academic community.
