The MNMKK National Széchényi Library hosted a delegation of South Korean civil servants on 18th June 2025. During a professional program conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the visitors gained insight into the work, values, and heritage preservation mission of the national library.
The 15-member group from Gyeongnam Province included officials working in various areas of public administration. They showed particular interest in library system operations, the application of new technologies, domestic reading promotion activities, and best practices in preserving national cultural heritage.
The guests were welcomed by Judit Gerencsér, Deputy Director General of MNMKK OSZK, who opened the event with a talk presenting the more than 200-year history of the National Széchényi Library. Her presentation covered the founding circumstances, the innovations throughout the years, and the vital role of the library in collecting, preserving, and making Hungarian cultural heritage accessible for the public.
The second speaker was Attila Mátyás Rényi, Head of the Digital Preservation Department, who addressed current challenges in digital heritage preservation and shared practical solutions implemented by the library.
Following the presentations, the delegation took part in a guided library tour led by Annamária Sudár, staff member of the Director General’s Cabinet. The visitors also viewed the Vershaza (House of Poetry) exhibition.
The program concluded with a special showcase that provided an exclusive look at some of the most treasured items of the library.
The music collection was presented by Anna Laskai, Head of the Theatre History and Music Collection Section of the library, while selected items from the Early Printed Books Collection were introduced by Bernadett Varga, Head of Department.
