NSZL welcomes the special anniversary year commemorating 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare by opening a chamber exhibition at 4.30 p.m. on Thursday July 7, 2016. You and your friends are invited to the event followed by a special guided tour of the exhibition led by curator Ágnes Bessenyei.
The memory of Miklós Zrínyi and his soldiers who were killed in action on September 8, 1566, protecting the fortress of Szigetvár surrounded by Ottoman troops has been preserved by national memory for 450 years. The Music Collection of NSZL compiled a chamber exhibition presenting some of the music-related documents of this tradition.

National Széchényi Library was granted Family-Friendly Workplace Award 2016 by the State Secretariat for Family and Youth Affairs. The Library was one of the winners of the award in the category of budgetary institutions.

At 1 p.m. on August 5 and 12, guided tours will be held at our Mihály Zichy exhibition. You and your friends are welcome at the events. Please, note that the guided tours will be held in Hungarian.

We would like to inform you that today, on July 19, between 1.30 p.m. and 10 p.m. there will be an advertising film shooting in Lion Courtyard. Visitors who arrive to have a look at our Zichy exhibition may occasionally be stopped for a few minutes. We apologize for the inconvenience.

National Széchényi Library will be closed between July 18, 2016 and August 22, 2016. The Mihály Zichy exhibition will be open until September 15, 2016, even during the summer closure.

In Videotorium (Science Online), you can watch lectures delivered at our event entitled “The Fate of Old Books”. Topics included the concept of bibliographic unit, Petrik’s bibliography, an overview of Hungarian national bibliography between 1701 and 1920, and the science historical status of retrospective national bibliography.

Balázs Mikusi, Head of the Music Collection of National Széchényi Library was elected one of the vice presidents of International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres for the period between 2016 and 2019.

The 8th volume of the series Bibliotheca Scientiae et Artis, published jointly by the Hungarian national library and Gondolat Publishing House, is out. The book focuses on representations of power in sciences and arts.
