Just like in previous years, NSZL will take part in the Hungarian Language and Book Festival to be held between September 2 -4, 2016 in Szentháromság Square. We are waiting for you and your friends with a book sales pavilion and a stage book presentation in Szentháromság Square, and with lots of other programs in the Library building.

A volume of studies entitled „Nekünk mégis Mohács kell…” II. Lajos király rejtélyes halála és különböző temetései (“We Still Need Mohács…” The Mysterious Death and Various Burials of King Louis II), published jointly by the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and National Széchényi Library, will be presented in Budapest History Museum on August 29, 2016, on the on the 490th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács.

On August 18, Katalin Bánkeszi, Honorary Director of the Hungarian Library Institute was granted József Szinnyei Award for her professional work. This award is granted to those who have had an outstanding performance on the long run, and who have promoted the development of their special field by their activities and initiatives.

NSZL as a Book Publisher has been present on the Hungarian book market with its prestigious publications for years now. The Library publishes 26 to 30 publications annually, based on its unique collection and on the special knowledge of its staff members. On its own or jointly with renowned Hungarian and international publishing houses, NSZL publishes a wide range of books including facsimile editions, decorative albums, conference and study volumes, gap-filling bibliographies and exhibition catalogs.

During the summer closure, the entire building of NSZL will be closed on Saturday August 20, 2016, so on this day you cannot visit our exhibition entitled Zichy’s Drawn Heroes either. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday August 23.

Our blog on cartography, launched in April 2016, was awarded a certificate of merit by Scientific Educational Society and Science Journalists Club.

Almanac of Budapest Journalists Association 1909 By re-editing the Almanac of Budapest Journalists Association 1909, National Széchényi Library and Argumentum Publishing House aim at promoting research into the social, press and literary history of the early 20the century. Publishers also hope that the “educated readership” will also be interested in this volume.

According to estimates, some 180,000 books, periodicals and other documents have been donated during collecting from overseas bequests and private libraries since 2014 when the program was launched. The program continues with the leadership of NSZL. Éva Dányi gave an interview to Könyvtárvilág.

National Széchényi Library invites you and your friends to its concerts held during the upcoming Esztergom Liszt Week. The Library Choir will take part in concerts beginning at 7 p.m. on August 25 in the Franciscan Church of Esztergom and at 7 p.m. on August 28 in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and Saint Adalbert, Esztergom.
