Károly Escher, cameraman and outstanding photo artist of the era between the two world wars, died fifty years ago. His life was connected to Erzsébetváros, the 7th District of Budapest in more ways than one. On April 6, 2016 an exhibition will be opened in K11 Art and Cultural Center, where his photos borrowed from the Photo Collection of National Széchényi Library will be exhibited.

Károly Escher, cameraman and outstanding photo artist of the era between the two world wars, died fifty years ago.
His life was connected to Erzsébetváros, the 7th District of Budapest in more ways than one. For a while, he lived in the house of his brother-in-law in Alsó erdősor Street. As of 1928, he worked as a cameraman for newspapers published by Az Est Lapok for a decade. Editorial offices were based in the same house, at 54 Rákóczi Street, where Károly Escher lived for quite a long time.
The bulk of his oeuvre, some 38,000 photographs, is now owned by National Széchényi Library. Processing of the photos started a couple of years ago.
The exhibition commemorates the outstanding cameraman and photo artist, onetime resident of Erzsébetváros, Budapest. Károly Escher’s photographs will be on display at the Auditorium of K11 Art and Cultural Center [2] (11 Király Street, 7th District of Budapest).
The exhibition will be open between April 6 and April 27, 2016 daily, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
