On 25 March 2026, our library hosted a ceremonial reception organised by the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Budapest on the occasion of Greek Independence Day. Held in the iconic building of Buda Castle, the event attracted a wide cross-section of the Greek community in Hungary, further strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
The reception took place on 25 March 2026 in the exhibition space on the sixth floor of the National Széchényi Library. The event was hosted by Manolis Apostolakis, Ambassador of Greece to Budapest, and marked Greek Independence Day. The celebration was held at the emblematic venue of Buda Castle, within the historic building of the national library, providing a fitting setting for the national commemoration.
Approximately two hundred invited guests attended the event, including ambassadors accredited to Budapest, Hungarian officials and representatives of the business community, as well as members of the Greek community in Hungary.

On behalf of the national library, Director General Dávid Rózsa delivered a welcome address, highlighting that the relationship between the national library and the Greek community dates back more than fifteen years. Over this period, numerous joint events, exhibitions and cultural programmes have strengthened this vibrant connection. As he noted, these occasions have created genuine intellectual and human bridges between the communities, and the library looks forward to continuing this tradition. The Director General also emphasised that the languages, cultures, traditions and customs of national minorities in Hungary – including the Greek community – not only enrich the shared cultural heritage but also serve as important links to their homelands.
For the national library, it was of particular importance to provide a venue for celebrating Greek cultural heritage, thereby contributing to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries.
